Nicholas Friesen is a cartoonist from Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. His work is predominantly hand drawn and digitally coloured, but he also works with watercolour, gouache, pencil crayon, textiles, and marker.
His comic work includes the multimedia Olivia Sea project (consisting of music, animation, collector cards, comics, graphic novels, and more), the painted comic …with silver sunshine stares, editing and contributing to multiple anthologies, the Ineccentric mini comic series, zines, and more.
His visuals have appeared in The Globe and Mail, Uptown, The Uniter, Stylus, and on such blogs as Screaming in All Caps, WordPress Discover, and Jaded and Elated. They have also been projected onto the sides of buildings during the Juno Awards and on IMAX screens. He’s also made children’s books with Ace Burpee. In 2024, he was voted “Winnipeg’s Favourite Visual Artist” in the Uniter readers poll.
